Crown Prince Danilo Alexander of Montenegro (born June 29, 1871 in Cetinje , Montenegro , † September 24, 1939 in Vienna , Austria ) was a member of the House of Petrović-Njegoš and titular king of Montenegro .

Life

Danilo was the eldest son of King Nikola I of Montenegro (1841-1921) and his wife Milena Vukotić (1847-1923). He grew up with his siblings in Cetinje. His sisters, Zorka , Militza , Anastasia , Elena and Anna married into prestigious European noble houses, Russia , Italy and Germany .

On July 27, 1899, Crown Prince Danilo Alexander of Montenegro married Princess Jutta von Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1880-1946), second daughter of Grand Duke Adolf Friedrich V and Princess Elisabeth von Anhalt in Cetinje , who changed her name to Militza after the wedding . The marriage remained childless.

After the death of his father in 1921, Crown Prince Danilo became King Danilo III on March 1, 1921 . called out. Since he was only king in exile, he abdicated after a week in favor of his nephew, Prince Michael of Montenegro , and went into exile in Italy with his wife Militza.
