Auguste Charlotte Jutta Alexandra Georgine Adolfine Duchess of Mecklenburg (-Strelitz) (born January 24, 1880 in Neustrelitz , †  February 17,  1946 in Rome ) was a member of the ducal house of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and was crown princess or titular queen of by marriage Montenegro.

Life

Jutta was the second eldest daughter of four children of Grand Duke Adolf Friedrich V (1848-1914) and his wife Princess Elisabeth von Anhalt-Dessau (1857-1933). Her paternal grandparents were Grand Duke Friedrich Wilhelm of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and Princess Augusta Karoline of Great Britain, Ireland and Hanover . Her childhood revolved around perfect behavior and social representation. She was taught exclusively at home by governesses and tutors with the help of her father's library . At an early age, she and her siblings accompanied their parents to visit relatives abroad. She met her future husband at one of the many family celebrations.

On July 27, 1899, Princess Jutta married Crown Prince Danilo of Montenegro (1871-1939), the eldest son of the Montenegrin King Nikola Petrović-Njegoš, in Cetinje . The day before the marriage she converted to the Orthodox Church under the name Militza . The marriage, which all reports said was a happy one, remained childless.

The princely house around Prince Nikola I was the inspiration for Franz Lehár 's operetta The Merry Widow . Even if the name Montenegro was renamed in the original libretto to the name of the similar sounding Spanish city Pontevedro for reasons of censorship : South Slavic music numbers and above all the personal names Danilo and Njegoš (name of the Montenegrin dynasty) make this easy to recognize; Just like Princess Jutta von Mecklenburg-Strelitz once did, the funny operetta widow Hanna Glawari marries a Danilo.

After the death of her father-in-law in 1921, her husband became King Danilo III in exile on March 1, 1921 . called out. After a week he abdicated in favor of his nephew Michael of Montenegro and settled in Italy with his wife .
