Elisabeth of Anhalt (1857–1933)
Princess Elisabeth Marie Friederike Amalie Agnes von Anhalt (born September 7, 1857 in Wörlitz ; † July 20, 1933 in Neustrelitz ) was a member of the Ascanian family and, through marriage, the last Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg in the Mecklenburg-Strelitz region .
Life
Elisabeth was the eldest daughter of six children of Duke Friedrich I von Anhalt (1831-1904) and his wife Duchess Antoinette (1838-1908), the second daughter of Prince Eduard von Sachsen-Altenburg and his first wife Princess Amalie von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen . Her paternal grandparents were Duke Leopold IV. Friedrich von Anhalt-Dessau and Princess Friederike of Prussia .
On April 17, 1877 married Princess Elizabeth in Dessau the Hereditary Grand Duke Adolf Frederick of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1848-1914), only son of the Grand Duke Friedrich Wilhelm and his wife Princess Auguste Caroline of Great Britain . Four children emerged from the mutual connection:

- ⚭ 1914 Prince Julius Ernst zur Lippe (-Biesterfeld) (1873–1952)
- ⚭ 1899 Prince Danilo of Montenegro (1871–1939); King of Montenegro
- Adolf Friedrich VI. Georg Ernst Albert Eduard (1882–1918, suicide )
- Karl Borwin Christian Alexander Arthur (1888–1908 in a duel)
In addition to social responsibilities, the Hereditary Grand Duchess and later Grand Duchess Elisabeth was involved in several charitable organizations; a major concern was school education and sickness. In 1910 she donated the Borwinheim in Neustrelitz in memory of Karl Borwin .
Grand Duchess Elisabeth was buried in the royal crypt of the Mirow Palace Church.
