Charles Gray, 5th Earl Gray

Charles Robert Gray, 5th Earl Gray ( December 15, 1879 - April 2, 1963 in Howick , Northumberland ) was a British nobleman .

He was the son of Albert Gray, 4th Earl Gray . Gray attended Eton College and then studied at Trinity College , Cambridge . Between 1894 and 1917 he carried the courtesy title Viscount Howick . Gray then joined the British Army and served, among other things, with the Life Guards . It was up to the Major promoted and fought in the First World War .

In the general election in January 1910 , Gray ran for a seat in the House of Commons . He stood as a candidate for the Liberal Unionist Party in the Bradford Central constituency against the liberal mandate holder George Scott Robertson , but was defeated by this. In 1917 he inherited the title of Earl Gray, succeeding his father, and became a member of the House of Lords .

In 1906 he married Lady Mabel Laura Georgiana Palmer, the only daughter of William Palmer, 2nd Earl of Selborne , and had two daughters with her. The title passed to a second cousin on his death.
