Charles Malherbe

Charles Théodore Malherbe (born April 21, 1853 in Paris , † October 5, 1911 in Cormeilles ) was a French musicologist and composer.

Life

The grandson of the painter Charles Mozin studied law. He worked for various musical magazines. With Albert Soubies he published the Histoire de l'Opéra-Comique from 1892–93 : la seconde salle Favart . In 1899 he became archivist and librarian at the Paris Opera . He owned a collection of autographs which included Bach cantatas, pieces by Beethoven and Berlioz ' Symphonie fantastique .

Malherbe composed piano and organ works, songs, chamber music and three operas.
