Charles Vandeleur Creagh CMG (born October 4, 1842 in Cahirbane , Ballykilty / Clare , † September 18, 1917 ), was a British barrister and colonial governor of North Borneo .

biography

Vandeleur Creagh came from a family of soldiers. His grandfather was a major, his father was a captain and died in March 1857. The father's marriage to Grace Emily O'Moore resulted in ten other children, including the future general Sir Garrett O'Moore Creagh . Vandeleur Creagh and another of his brothers also served in the military. He graduated from the Royal Naval School in New Cross and Eastman's Royal Naval Academy in Southsea . He also served as the Barrister of the Middle Temple Chamber.

Before he became governor of North Borneo, he was also an assistant resident in Perak . During his governorship from 1888 to 1895, the administration of Labuan also fell under his jurisdiction. In 1890 he was accepted as a Companion in the Order of St Michael and St George.

Vandeleur Creagh was married twice. On June 6, 1882, he married Blanche Francis Edwardes in Kensington. The marriage had three children, including the future Rear Admiral James Vandeleur Creagh . In 1867 he married his second wife named Mary. with her he had two other children.
