Charlie Burse

Charlie Burse (born August 25, 1901 in Decatur , Alabama , † December 20, 1965 in Memphis , Tennessee ) was an American blues musician. The guitarist , banjo - mandolins - and Ukulele poker players Burse, sometimes Uke Kid called, is best known as a member of the Memphis Jug Band and longtime partner of Will Shade .

1939 founded Burse his own band, the Memphis Mudcats . He also performed solo and repeatedly with Shade. Charlie Burse's recordings include Good Potatoes on the Hill , Weed Smoking Mama and Bottle Up and Go .

As time went on, the old Memphis blues veterans became quiet. In 1956, Burse and Shade were rediscovered by blues researcher Samuel Charters and enjoyed considerable popularity during the folk and blues revival in the 1960s .

Charlie Burse died in 1965. The album Beale St. Mess Around , on which Burse played again with old blues and youth band colleagues, was released almost 10 years after his death.
