Frederick Charles "Charlie" George (born October 10, 1950 in Islington ) is a former English football player .

life and career

The in London district of Islington -born Englishman began his career as a teenager in New Middleton. In 1966 he joined Arsenal . George was a fan of the Gunners from childhood. He made his debut for the club in August 1969. In the 1969/70 season he was a regular for the Arsenal team. George played in both finals of the Gunners' trade fair cup success in 1970 against RSC Anderlecht . In the following season, the striker broke his ankle , but was able to recover quickly from the injury and was an important player in the league title and cup win in 1971. George scored the decisive goal in the FA Cup final against Liverpool . After many injuries and disputes with the Arsenal board, he moved to Derby County in 1975 , but at Derby - as at other British clubs ( Southampton FC , Nottingham Forest , Bournemouth AFC and Dundee United ) - he could not continue his old successes. The Englishman also made football trips to Hong Kong ( Bulova SA ), Australia (the St. George Saints ) and the USA ( Minnesota Kicks ). George retired from Dundee United in Scotland in 1983 . Internationally, he played once for the English national football team against Ireland on September 8, 1976. After his active career, George worked as a mechanic , today he tours the Emirates Stadium in London.
