Charlotte of France (* 23. October 1516 at Amboise Castle ; † 18th September 1524 at Château de Saint-Germain-en- Laye ) was from the House of Valois native princess of France . She was the second child and daughter of the French King Franz I and his first wife Claudia of France and thus an older sister of King Henry II.

Origin and family

Charlotte was born on October 23, 1516 in Schloss Amboise Castle . Her mother Claudia was a daughter of King Ludwig XII. of France and his second wife Anne de Bretagne . Thus Charlotte was a princess of France. She had green-blue eyes and red hair , which she inherited from her grandmother Anne de Bretagne as one of six children. She led a beautiful life at Amboise Castle, and the move in 1519 to Saint-Germain-en-Laye Castle did not harm her either. The siblings, who were born after Charlotte's younger brother François , were born in Saint-Germain-en-Laye Castle.

Early end of life

Charlotte was always sensitive and fragile. She developed measles at the age of seven ; the same illness from which her half-uncle Charles Orland, former Dauphin of France, died in 1495 at the age of three. The only person who helped the sick, petite child was her aunt Margarete , who broke his heart when the girl died.

Charlotte was buried in the Saint-Denis Cathedral in Saint-Denis .
