Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited ( Thai บริษัท เจริญ โภคภัณฑ์ อาหาร จำกัด (มหาชน) ) is Thailand's biggest companies in the agriculture industry . It is part of the Charoen Pokphand group of companies . The company is listed in the SET Index on the Thai Stock Exchange ( SET : CPF).
Overview
As the most important company in the Thai agricultural industry, CPF is itself a large corporation , the greater part of which operates in Thailand itself, while others are active abroad. The core business areas are animal husbandry and aquaculture . These include chicken farms for meat and egg production, duck farms and pig farming. The most important areas of aquaculture are sea fish and shrimp .
In addition to animal husbandry, CPF also dominates the feed market in Thailand. The focus is also on the creation of suitable branded items and value-added processes for food.
With the takeover of Bellisio , a manufacturer of frozen foods, for over 1 billion dollars, CP Foods expanded its activities into the American market in late 2016.
Business areas
livestock farming
The animal husbandry businesses are fully integrated and include chickens , laying hens , ducks and pigs, whose products fall into three categories: (1) feed, (2) animal breeding and (3) meat and animal products.
Feed
The production of feed includes concentrates, powders and pellets for chickens, laying hens, ducks and pigs. The feed is distributed in Thailand through around 600 trade agents. In addition, some of the feed is also sold directly to large animal husbandry companies in the country.
Corn , soy flour and broken rice are used for the animal feed with the aid of computer-controlled manufacturing processes in order to guarantee consistent quality. The raw materials and the products produced are checked at random.
Animal breeding
The aim of the activities in the field of animal breeding is to generate high-quality and disease-resistant breeding animals that can thrive in the tropical-monsoonal climate of the country. These are either given directly to the companies or distributed by the trade representatives.
Meat products
CPF sells animals to meat-producing companies and also produces edible meat products itself. Research and development is carried out to improve the quality of processes in the country's tropical climate. The company's own operations use a system for controlling and preventing animal diseases, which ultimately leads to faster growth of the animals, higher survival rates and lower costs.
The edible meat products encompass the entire product range of production. Chilled and frozen meat are produced according to customer requirements . These products are also exported abroad, mainly to the European Union , Japan and other Asian countries. Charoen Pokphand was one of the largest poultry producers in the world in 2014, with 939 million animals slaughtered.
criticism
Greenpeace criticized the company for the destruction of mangrove forests , the mass farming of fish, the use of chemicals and the environmentally harmful disposal of sewage.
UK newspaper The Guardian reported in June 2014 on widespread human trafficking and enslavement in the Thai fishing industry, including fishermen working for CP Foods or subcontractors.
