Chauvenet Prize

The Chauvenet Prize (English Chauvenet Prize ) is the highest US award for explanatory representation of mathematical knowledge (Expository Mathematical Writing) and is awarded annually by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). The prize is endowed with $ 1,000 in prize money. It is named in honor of William Chauvenet (a math professor at the US Naval Academy) and has been awarded since 1925, thanks to a donation from Julian Lowell Coolidge (1873–1954), professor and chairman of the mathematics faculty at Harvard and then president the MAA. Much of the award-winning work was published in the American Mathematical Monthly, the journal of the MAA.
