Gilbert Strand

William Gilbert Strang (born November 27, 1934 in Chicago ) is an American mathematician who contributed to the finite element method , calculus of variations, and wavelet analysis. He is also strongly committed to mathematics education, particularly through his six mathematics textbooks and a monograph .

Strang is a professor of mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology .
