Cheringoma is a district in the Sofala Province in Mozambique with its administrative headquarters in Inhaminga . Its territory is bordered by the Caia and Marromeu districts to the north, the Indian Ocean to the east, the Muanza district to the south and the Maringué and Gorongosa districts to the west .
geography
The northern part of Cheringoma belongs to the Zambezi River Basin . Its right tributary, the Zangue, forms the border with the neighboring district of Caia. The southeast is drained into the Indian Ocean via the Pungwe River. The central part is on the Cheringoma plateau, the highest point of which is 379 meters above sea level. The plateau slopes steeply to the north and west and gently to the south and east.
According to the Köppen and Geiger classification , Cheringoma has a tropical savannah climate (Aw) with an average annual rainfall between 1,000 and 1,200 millimeters.

Cheringoma District is 7,108 square kilometers and had a population of 53,406 in 2013. This corresponds to a population density of 7.5 people per square kilometer.
Facilities and services
There are (as of 2013) 58 primary schools ( Primárias) and four secondary schools (Secundárias) in the district. Of the primary schools, 41 are public and 17 are private schools, and all secondary schools are public schools.
There are six health centers and one ambulance in Cheringoma.

Economy and Infrastructure
In 2007, only 1.2 percent of the Cheringoma population had access to electrical energy (12.6 percent in Sofala Province), and over 50 percent heated with wood (26 percent in Sofala Province). Only four in every thousand people owned a car (20 in 1,000 in Sofala Province).
Agriculture
In 2005 there were 4,000 farms averaging 1.8 hectares of land. The main crops are cassava (one third of the cultivated area, more than 50 percent of the harvest in tons), maize, beans, peanuts, millet and sweet potatoes.
Mining
Limestone is mined in Cheringoma.
traffic
The railway line from Beira to Caia runs through Cheringoma and has the railway stations Inhaminga and Inhamitanga.

The Cheringoma District is part of the Marromeu National Park and the Gorongosa National Park .
