Chester Ray Longwell

Chester Ray Longwell (born October 15, 1887 in Spalding , Missouri , † December 15, 1975 in Palo Alto , California ) was an American geologist .

From 1916 to 1920, Longwell worked for the Oklahoma Geological Survey . He also became a member of the US Geological Survey and received his doctorate from Yale University in 1920 . In 1956 he went to Stanford University and later became a professor there . Longwell was known for his geological studies in the western United States .

One of his works is: Geology of the Muddy Mountains, Nevada, with a section to the Grand Wash Cliffs in Arizona

In 1949 he was President of the Geological Society of America . Longwell was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1935, the American Philosophical Society in 1948, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1953.
