Chester Cortez Thompson (born December 11, 1948 in Baltimore , Maryland , USA ) is an American drummer .

He is not to be confused with the keyboardist of the same name from Carlos Santana and Tower of Power .

Live and act

Born and raised in Baltimore, Thompson began playing drums at the age of nine. Thompson is best known for his longstanding collaboration with Genesis and Phil Collins as touring drummers. During his career, Thompson has spent a lot of time in a wide variety of music centers, including Los Angeles and London. From jazz to rock and pop to gospel , Chester Thompson is at home in many musical genres. His drumming has influenced numerous musicians for more than three decades.

Other stations in his career include Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention , Weather Report , Eric Clapton , Steve Hackett , Tony Banks , Donna Summer , Bee Gees , Neil Diamond and Joe Henderson .

With A Joyful Noise he released his first solo album. He released his first solo DVD Chester Thompson - On the Fly in collaboration with Drums'n'Percussion Paderborn in 2003. In 2005 the second DVD Chester & Luis - Drum Talk was created together with Luis Conte.

Teaching

Thompson has been a drums teacher and director of the jazz ensemble at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee , since 1998 . In addition, he continues to tour and publish solo projects.

Private

Thompson lives in Nashville with his family. His wife Roz Thompson has also started a musical career with her album Face to Face , which mainly deals with Christian topics.
