Chhatarpur was a princely state in the Bundelkhand region of British India in what is now the state of Madhya Pradesh . Its capital was the place Chhatarpur . The principality was founded in 1785 by Raja Sone Shah, a follower of the Raja of Panna . Chhatarpur came under the sovereignty of the Nawab of Banda in 1800 and was a British protectorate from 1806 to 1947 . Raja Vishwanath Singh (1867-1932) was raised to Maharaja in 1894 .
In 1901 the country had an area of 2927 km² and 156,000 inhabitants.
