Chhumig ( Dzongkha : ཆུ་མིག་ ), also transcribed Chummy , is one of four Gewogs (blocks) of the Dzongkhags Bumthang in central Bhutan . Chhumig Gewog is in turn divided into five Chiwogs (constituencies). The Gewog is located in the southwestern part of Bumthang and extends over altitudes between 2200 and 4485 m .
According to the 2005 census, 3591 people live in this area in an area of 404 km². The Dzongkhag administration states on its website a population of around 2900 people who live in 21 (according to the electoral commission's counting 26) villages or hamlets in 291 households.
The schools of the Gewog include three elementary schools and two secondary schools, the Chumme Middle Secondary School and the private Sonam Kuenphen Higher Secondary School . There is also an institute for vocational training. There are three advice centers for medical care. In the village there is an old Domkhar, recognized Dzong , Tashichholing Dzong , the renovated into a residential palace for the fifth king , Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck was expanded.
Wheat, barley, buckwheat and, as cash crops, potatoes are grown in Chhumig . The Gewong is divided into Upper and Lower Chumme. The people of Ober-Chumme earn their livelihood mainly from agriculture. Yathra weaving is an important line of business in Nieder-Chhume . Yathras are hand-woven wool fabrics from which bags, jackets, seat covers, tablecloths, scarves, etc. are made. Another line of business is livestock. There are also three sawmills . A small hydroelectric power station is located in Nangar, the electricity generated is shared by Chhuming Gewog, Chhoekhor Gewog and Trongsa Dzongkhag . While some villages in Nieder-Chhume are supplied with solar power, there are still some places in Ober-Chhume without electricity.
