Chic Brodie

Charles "Chic" Brodie , (born May 8, 1944 ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Life

Brodie attended Morgan Academy in Dundee and then earned bachelor's degrees in math and economics from St Andrews University . Then Brodie worked for various commercial companies.

Political career

Brodie was initially a member of the Liberal Democrats . For this he appeared several times unsuccessfully in elections to the British House of Commons ; so in 1992 in the constituency of Glasgow Garscadden , 1997 in the constituency of Perth and 2001 in the constituency of Greenock and Inverclyde . He also ran for the first Scottish parliamentary elections in 1999, but was only able to win the fourth-highest percentage of votes in his constituency of Perth and clearly missed entry into the Scottish Parliament .

In 2002 he left the Liberal Democrats and joined the Scottish National Party (SNP). In the general election in 2005 he ran for the first time for the SNP, clearly missed the direct mandate of his constituency Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock . The same was true of the 2010 general election in the same constituency. In the Scottish parliamentary elections in 2011 , Brodie narrowly missed the direct mandate of the Ayr constituency behind the Liberal Democrat John Scott . However, since Brodie was also placed on the regional electoral list of the SNP in the electoral region of South Scotland , he received one of the four list mandates of the SNP in this electoral region and moved into the Scottish Parliament for the first time.
