history

In 1215 the Archbishop of Salzburg established the Chiemsee diocese . The Bishop of Chiemsee acted as the Archbishop's personal auxiliary bishop , who also imposed other tasks on him. Although bishop of his own diocese, the bishop always resided in Salzburg, where he lived in the Chiemseehof, first mentioned in 1216. Around 1300 it was expanded into a residence. The courtyard chapel was inaugurated in an enlarged size, which one could confidently call a church, in 1497. After a fire at the end of the 16th century, the buildings were rebuilt, enlarged and rebuilt in 1694. The Chiemseehof served as the residence of the Chiemsee bishops until 1812. In 1812 the former bishop of Chiemsee Sigmund Christoph von Zeil und Trauchburg became the recognized administrator of the Archdiocese of Salzburg . His successor, the Salzburg Archbishops Augustin Gruber , Prince of Schwarzenberg and von Tarnóczy, resided here until 1861 . The Chiemseehof has been the seat of the Salzburg state parliament and the state government since 1866. The complex was rebuilt several times, so in the course of adaptation work in 1873 the Kumpfmüllertor, including its extensions, and the court chapel were demolished. Today's meeting room of the state parliament was set up in a building that Bishop Silvester Pflieger (1438–1451) had built as a grain bin . In 1967 and 1977 the Chiemseehof was completely renovated.

The Chiemseehof has been under renovation for 7.4 million euros since spring 2017. The municipal council meeting room in the Salzburg town hall and the Salzburg residence serve as alternative quarters for state parliament sessions . The renovation should be completed in summer 2019. The first sessions will take place on February 20, 2019 in the renovated Chiemseehof.
