Chikballapur (also: Chik Ballapur , Chickballapur , Chikkaballapur , Chikkaballapura ; Kannada : ಚಿಕ್ಕಬಳ್ಳಾಪುರ Cikkabaḷḷāpura [ tʃikːʌbʌɭːɑːpurʌ ]) is a city in the southern Indian state of Karnataka with around 64,000 inhabitants (2011 census).

Chikballapur is located in the southeast of Karnataka not far from the border with the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh, 56 kilometers north of the capital Bangalore . The city is the administrative seat of the Chikballapur District .

Chikballapur is located in the southernmost part of the Deccan highlands at an altitude of over 900 meters above sea level, not far from the Nandi Hills . The name of the city means "Little Ballapur" in the local language Kannada. The name addition serves to distinguish it from the nearby city of Dodballapur ("Great Ballapur"). Thanks to the national highway NH 7 , the city has good transport links to Bangalore.

According to the 2011 census, Chikballapur has 63,652 inhabitants. 74 percent of the population are Hindus , 23 percent are Muslims and 2 percent are Christians . Kannada , the main language of Karnataka, is spoken in Chikballapur as a mother tongue by only a relative majority of 37 percent of the population according to the 2001 census. There are also a large number of speakers of Telugu , the language of the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh, who make up 35 percent of the population. Urdu (25 percent) is also widespread among Muslims. A smaller minority speaks Tamil (2 percent).
