Pseudosedum is a genus of plants inthe thick-leaf family (Crassulaceae). The botanical name of the genus Pseudosedum is derived from the Greek word pseudo for 'false' and the generic name Sedum and means "false sedum". The genus contains about ten to 13 species. It is not known to be used by humans.

description

Pseudosedum species are usually herbaceous perennials . The roots are thin, cord-like to bulbous. Some sessile, brown, scale-shaped leaves are basal together. During the growing season unbranched, upright to ascending stems are formed with many alternately arranged, sessile, fleshy, simple, whole-edged leaves that are elongated to linear with a rounded cross-section. Stipules are missing.

The terminal, mostly branched, often composed of umbrella-like partial inflorescences, contain many flowers and bracts. The stalked flowers are hermaphroditic and five to sixfold. The five to six sepals are fleshy and only fused very briefly at their base. The five membranous, rose-colored, purple-red to violet or reddish petals , which turn golden-yellow or white when drying, are fused together up to almost half their length in a funnel-shaped to bell-shaped manner. There are two circles with five or six stamens each. The stamens are fused with the corolla tube. The nectar scales are square. The five to six upright carpels are only fused at their base and each contain many ovules . The stylus are narrow.

The elongated follicles contain many seeds. The small seeds are usually elongated and brown.

Systematics and distribution

The genus Pseudosedum is only found in central Asia: China (two species), Mongolia , Pakistan (two species), Tajikistan (five species), Kazakhstan , Kyrgyzstan , Uzbekistan , Russia , Afghanistan and Iran .

In 1930 Alwin Berger established the genus Pseudosedum in Adolf Engler & Carl Prantl : The Natural Plant Families , Second Edition, 18 (a), p. 465. The species of these genera were previously called Umbilicus sect. Pseudosedum Boiss. classified in the genus Umbilicus by Pierre Edmond Boissier in Flora Orientalis , 2, 775, 1872.

The genus Pseudosedum belongs to the subtribe Telephiinae from the tribe Sedeae in the subfamily Sedoideae within the family of Crassulaceae . The genus includes the following species:
