List of domestic dogs

The Chinese Chongqing Dog is not from the FCI recognized dog breed from the People's Republic of China . The breed is recognized as a national breed by the China Kennel Union (CKU), which represents China in the FCI. The UCK groups the breed into group 2 according to the FCI standard: Pinscher and Schnauzer - Molosser - Swiss Mountain Dogs. The FCI recognition is sought.

Origin and history

The Chongqing Dog has a long history, today it is believed that its origins were around 2000 years ago, in Chongqing , a south-western region of China. On April 20, 2000, archaeologists found a cemetery belonging to the Western Han Dynasty (around 202 BC to 8 AD) in the Jiangbei area of Chongqing. A large number of ceramic dog statues that resemble the Chongqing Dog have been found there. The breed standard describes as direct ancestors of the breed regional dogs from the neighboring regions Dazhu , Hechuan , Yongchuan , Lingshui and Guang'an , known collectively as the Chongqing Dogs ( Chongqing Dog were called). They were used for hunting in the mountainous areas of eastern Sichuan . In the course of time, these types of dogs lost their areas of application and thus their importance and the population decreased significantly. From the 1970s onwards, the breed was developed and became a popular working dog.

description

Both the Chinese Chuandong hound and the Chinese Chongqing Dog were developed from the same ancestors. The CKU, the Chinese Dog Breeding Association, has these under a separate name. With up to 45 cm, the Chongqing Dog is a medium-sized dog, compact and square in construction, muscular and powerful. In terms of type, it corresponds to a Molossian. He is described as a loyal, intelligent, and brave dog. The fur without undercoat in the colors red (in variations light to dark) and black is short, smooth and easy to care for. The head is a bit massive in relation to the body, with a distinct stop and wrinkled forehead. The ears are small, upright, thin, and directed forward. As with the Chow-Chow or Shar Pei , the Chongqing Dog is said to have blackish-blue lips and a blue tongue.
