Chioma Onyekwere gained her first international experience at the 2016 African Championships in Durban , where she won the bronze medal behind Auriol Dongmo Mekemnang from Cameroon and her compatriot Nwanneka Okwelogu with a width of 15.71 m . She also won the bronze medal in the discus throw behind her compatriots Okwelogu and Chinwe Okoro with 53.91 m. Two years later she won the African Championships in Asaba with 58.09 m and was fourth at the Continental Cup in Ostrava with 56.68 m. In 2019 she took part in the Africa Games in Rabat for the first time and won there with a new player record of 59.91 m.
Onyekwere graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Mechanical Engineering .
