Geneva is a city in Ashtabula County in the state of Ohio , United States . The city has 6,595 inhabitants (2000 census). Acting city administrator is James Pearson.
Historical
The area around Geneva was settled in 1805, the community itself was founded around 1816 and unified into one city in 1958. Geneva was named after the city of the same name in the state of New York , the name of which goes back to Geneva .
Education System
Geneva has four elementary schools , one junior high school and one high school called Geneva High . The educational system of Geneva is subject to the Public Education Law , ie the schools take pupils and students from all US states on.
Agriculture
The city's location on Lake Erie makes viticulture possible in this area. Viticulture is only possible in a narrow strip of around 20 km in which the lake influences the mesoclimate . In the spring it is cooler for a long time than elsewhere due to the icing of the lake. This prevents the early budding of the plants, which can be damaged by the onset of frosts. In autumn, on the other hand, the lake serves as a heat store and enables the grapes to ripen. Geneva is known nationwide for its grapes , which are pressed into grape juice and wine and contribute significantly to the economic upkeep of the city. Every year in Geneva on the last weekend in September there is a harvest festival, the traditional "Grape Jamboree". On these two days, parades parade through the main streets of the city and there are festival and wine festival attractions .
particularities
Geneva is also one of the very few US communities that has claims to land and leases on the moon . These rights were claimed by Geneva in 1966, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary. However, the treaty signed as the United Nations Outer Space Treaty in 1967 precludes the right to extraterrestrial possessions by earthly governments and administrative units .
