The Isarangkun family is a distant branch of the Chakri dynasty . The predicate na Ayutthaya takes account of the distant royal descent. After campaigning for a controversial tantalum factory in Phuket , which angry local residents burned down for fear of toxic waste, he was faced with allegations of corruption that could not be substantiated.

A little later, on July 27, 1987, King Bhumibol appointed him General Director of the Crown Property Bureau (CBP), which administers the royal property. He also appointed him chief chamberlain of the royal court office. He sits on the boards of directors of several companies in which the CPB has substantial interests.
