Chitrakoot Dham (also Chitrakoot , Chitrakut or Karwi ) is a city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh .
Chitrakoot Dham is located in the south of the North Indian Plain, 100 km west-south-west of Prayagraj and 65 km east- south -east of Banda . The city is on the border with Madhya Pradesh . Across the border is the town of Chitrakoot . The Mandakini River , a right tributary of the Yamuna , flows along the western edge of the city. Chitrakoot Dham is the administrative seat of the Chitrakoot district , which was separated from the Banda district on May 6, 1997 . The city is on the national highway NH 76 (Banda – Prayagraj). The city is connected to the railway network.
Chitrakoot Dham has the status of Nagar Palika Parishad as a city . The city is divided into 25 wards . At the 2011 census, Chitrakoot Dham had 57,402 inhabitants.
