Chlamydophora tridentata is the only plant species from the genus Chlamydophora in the family of Compositae (Asteraceae).
features
Chlamydophora tridentata is a bare, annual stem thermophyte that reaches heights of 2 to 30 centimeters. The slightly fleshy leaves are linear to lanceolate, with entire margins or serrated and their tips are often three-toothed. The heads are 5 to 8 millimeters in diameter. The shell is hemispherical. The bracts are elongated, about 2 millimeters long, rounded and broadly dry-skinned. The crown is truncated crookedly, lobed and about as long as the fruit.
The flowering period extends from February to April.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 18.
Occurrence
Chlamydophora tridentata occurs in the southeastern Mediterranean region in Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, the Aegean Sea, Crete, Cyprus, Turkey, Jordan and Israel. The species grows in Crete in salt marshes and in brackish locations inland.
