Chlorocruorin is the oxygen transporter of some marine annelids . It is in dissolved form in your blood and is responsible for its yellow-green color. In higher concentrations it is red as a dichromatic dye. As with hemoglobin , the oxygen is bound via divalent iron , which is associated with a porphyrin ring, but with a lower affinity . The molar mass is about 2750 to 3600 kDa , which makes it a comparatively very large protein, with repeating protein domains of about 17 kDa.
Its structure is similar to heme b . Instead of the formyl group, a vinyl group is located there at position 2 of the porphyrin ring. It is also similar to erythrocruorin . In contrast to hemoglobin in vertebrates, it is not present in blood cells, but freely in the Mixocoel .
