Cho Eon-rae (born October 1, 1986 in Incheon ) is a South Korean table tennis player .

Career

Cho made his first international appearances at the World Youth Championships in 2003 and 2004, where he won two individual silver medals. In 2005 he reached the semi-finals in doubles at the Chile and China Open, and in October he made it into the top 100 of the world rankings for the first time . The following year he won his first Pro Tour tournament with the Brazilian Open. In 2007 he was able to take part in the World Championship for the first time , and he also played successfully in doubles with Lee Jung-woo on the Pro Tour, so that they could qualify for the Grand Finals, where they were eliminated in the first round against Hao Shuai / Ma Long .

After reaching a preliminary high of 54th place in the world rankings in April 2007, Cho gradually fell back and in March 2009 was only 100th led the world rankings before he increased his activity again. In the 2010 World Cup he was part of the South Korean team won the bronze, and the Individual Championships in 2011 he reached the last 32. After he had come to the semi-finals of the Korea Open, which he 2: 4 against Dimitrij Ovtcharov lost , he reached a new record in August 2011 with world number 39.

At the 2013 World Cup , he was among the last 32. In 2014, he made it to the semi-finals of the Qatar Open and moved up to 19th place in the world rankings, setting a new personal record. He was eliminated with the team in the quarter-finals of the 2014 World Cup , and qualified for the Grand Finals in both singles and doubles at the end of the year . In singles he was eliminated in the first round against Kōki Niwa , in doubles with Seo Hyun-deok he won the gold medal. Further successes in doubles with Kim Dong-hyun followed in 2015, but the two were eliminated in the first round of the Grand Finals .

In 2016 Cho was temporarily not listed in the world rankings again due to inactivity, in July he dropped out of the top 100, and in 2017 he did not play a single international tournament. He returned to the World Tour in 2018, but was only 307th in the world at the end of the year.

Play style

Cho is an attacker and is known for his outstanding forehand topspins, which he uses both near and far from the table. He is one of the players with the most variable serves and setbacks.
