Cho Seung-woo (born March 28, 1980 in Seoul ) is a South Korean actor in films , television and musicals . He is best known for his roles in Song of the Faithful Chunhyang , The Classic, and Tazza: The High Rollers .

Life

Cho Seung-woo grew up in a musical family: his father, Cho Kyung-soo, is a singer, his older sister, Cho Seo-yeon, plays in musicals. As a child, Cho dreamed of becoming a musical performer. But during his time as a student at Dankook University , he auditioned for the film The Song of Faithful Chunhyang by Im Kwon-taek and got the lead role among the 1,000 applicants. The film marked his acting debut.

After his film debut, he played in several musical productions. However, he quickly returned to film for Wanee & Junha (2001) and H (2002). In 2003 he played the leading role alongside Son Ye-jin in the love drama The Classic by Kwak Jae-yong . He received good reviews for his acting performance. His next film, Low Life by Im Kwon-taek, flopped at the box office.

Cho made his breakthrough in 2005 with the film Marathon . In the film he plays an autistic young man who feels liberated by running. The film had 5 million admissions in South Korea and received positive reviews. Cho has received numerous awards for the role, including the Daejong Film Prize . Cho also pursued his musical career through roles in Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Jekyll & Hyde .

In 2006 he played the lead role in Love Phobia at the side of his then girlfriend Kang Hye-jung . He caused a stir again for the film Tazza: The High Rollers , based on the Manhwa of the same name by Huh Young-man . The film became one of the most successful films in South Korea and is about the gambler Goni who cheats other Hwatu players out of their money.
