Choi Jin-sil (born December 24, 1968 in Seoul , † October 2, 2008 ) was a popular South Korean actress .

Since the late 1980s, she has appeared in numerous cinema and television films. In South Korea she was also known as the "actress of the nation". Choi was found hanged in her bathroom. The police assume suicide . This was followed by a nationwide debate on the subject of cyber bullying , as the trigger for the suicide is suspected to be personal attacks on the Internet. Choi Jin-sil leaves two children behind.
