Friedhelm Korte
Friedhelm Korte (born November 24, 1923 in Bielefeld ; † May 6, 2013 in Attenkirchen ) was a German chemist and the founder of environmental chemistry .
Life
Korte studied chemistry and medicine at the Universities of Freiburg and Marburg . His habilitation thesis at the University of Hamburg dealt with the chemical classification of higher plants. He received the Venia legendi in 1954 at the University of Hamburg. In 1959 he was appointed adjunct professor at the University of Bonn .
From 1959 to 1964 he headed basic research at Shell for five years , where he mainly did research on crop protection . In 1964 he returned to the University of Bonn, where he was appointed full professor of organic chemistry and biochemistry in 1967 . His work eventually led to the establishment of the "Institute for Ecological Chemistry" at what was then the GSF research center in Neuherberg. In 1972 he was appointed to the first chair for ecological chemistry at the Technical University of Munich in Weihenstephan , which he held until his retirement in 1990. His work includes more than 900 publications.
His work influenced the chemicals legislation in Germany; He also worked on the most sustainable and environmentally friendly methods for gold extraction. On his initiative, the scientific journal Chemosphere was founded around 1971 .
