The Cholowa ( Russian Холо́ва ) is a left tributary of the Msta in the Russian Oblast of Novgorod .

The Cholowa has its origin in the small lake Katschan on the Valdai heights . It flows through the Ilmen lowlands initially in a westerly direction, later in a northwesterly direction. In doing so, she passes the Krestzy Rajon administrative center . Finally it flows into the Msta, which flows westwards, 92 km above its mouth into the Ilmensee.

The Cholowa has a length of 126 km. It drains an area of 1900 km². It is mainly fed by the snowmelt . The mean discharge 34 km above the mouth is 15.6 m³ / s. The river freezes in November and occasionally in January. In April it will be ice-free again.

At least in the past, the river was used for rafting .
