Chon Jongwon (in Korean script: 천종 원; * 1996 ) is a South Korean sport climber who won the overall world cup in bouldering in 2015 and 2017 , and in 2018 he took second place in bouldering at the world championships.

Chon first competed in international youth competitions in 2012 at the age of 16 and came second in the Asian Youth Championship in 2013. He has been climbing in the adult world cup since 2014. In his first year in the World Cup he made it to the finals twice and reached 4th place each time. He finished the season in 9th place.

In 2015 he made it to the final of a World Cup four times and finished in 6th place in Toronto, 2nd in Chongqing, 1st in Haiyang and 3rd in Munich. These placements were enough for the overall victory in the season ahead of the German Jan Hojer and the Czech Adam Ondra .

In 2016 he took 3rd place at the Bouldering World Cup in Chongqing . He also reached fourth place at the World Cup in Navi Mumbai . He also won the day in Innsbruck . He also won the La Sportiva Legends Only competition in 2016 .

In the 2017 Bouldering World Cup, he won the competitions in Chongqing, Vail and Navi Mumbai. He finished fourth in Nanjing and Munich. That was enough for another overall victory in bouldering. Due to the combined rating at the first Olympic appearance of sport climbing at the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 , he also competed in the neighboring lead discipline in 2017 . In it he made it to the final twice. In 2018 he finished second at the world bouldering championship behind Kai Harada .

In the past, Chon has also participated in competitions in the lead and speed disciplines , but has specialized in bouldering in the adult world cup.
