Vijay is an engineer and in love with the wealthy Rekha, but her father Jagdish disapproves of this connection because Vijay comes from a poor background. Therefore, he arranges a wedding with the son of the evil politician Seth Jamunadas.

In addition, Rekha's father and Jamunadas blame Vijay for a crime that he did not commit. Still, he goes to jail.

In prison, he befriends three other inmates, Bhalua, Kalua and Raju. The four of them break out of jail. Together with Rekha they go to a village called Shantinagar to protect the villagers from the evil politician Jamunada and some gangs who are terrorizing the village.

Jamunadas is arrested. Rekha's father now feels guilty and accepts Vijay. Vijay and the three other prisoners have to go back to prison, but their good deed is credited to shorten their prison term.
