Evangelical Singers Association
The Evangelical Singers Association (esb) is an association of choirs and individual singers within the Evangelical Church and community associations in Germany since 1898.
history
It was founded on July 11, 1898 in Barmen in what is now Wuppertal , and by the end of the same year it had 6,000 members. In 1906 the ESB joined the Gnadauer Verband . By 1914 the ESB had grown to 11,900 members. During the First World War, many choirs then had to be converted into women's choirs . The national singing festivals of the ESB were banned during National Socialism, as was the publication of Singet dem Herr magazine in 1941 . The then Federal Palace was also destroyed by bombs and many files were destroyed as a result.
In 1947, after the division of Germany, the ESB lost its members in eastern Germany. In 1990 the first all-German federal festival took place after reunification .
The ESB currently has around 5000 singers in mixed choirs, male choirs, female choirs, young choirs and children's choirs. The ESB also employs two music consultants who support the choirs in the travel service, as well as employees from the office. In addition, many voluntary regional employees work for the ESB.
The ESB is a member of the choir association in the Evangelical Church in Germany and the Evangelical Gnadauer Community Association .
Project choirs
The sound carrier production of the ESB began under its federal warden Reinhold Weber in the 1980s. This collected choirs from different choirs within the association to the tape choir of the Evangelical Singers Association. Every year in February, the members met for a leisure time to rehearse the sheet music that is regularly published by the Singers Association and to make them audible for the individual member choirs. The recordings at the end of the week took place in the recording studio of the Evangeliums-Rundfunk . In this way, the recordings produced for the internal purposes of the singer association found their way into the ERF's music archive and used in its broadcasts. The radio station finally published some titles on sound carriers through its publisher. In addition, recordings were made as part of the sing-along program Freude am Singen by Gerhard Schnitter , in which the choir was repeatedly a guest.
In 1994 federal warden Johannes Grosse founded a youth choir with an initial 40 voices under the name HighLife as the regional youth choir of the Middle Rhine region of the Evangelical Choir Association. The number of votes rose continuously until around 80 singers met regularly for rehearsal weekends and concerts. Through collaboration with the head producer at Gerth Medien , Jochen Rieger , Johannes Grosse and his youth choir published several productions. These publications also pursued an interactive concept, although this time not exclusively for the members of the Federation, but rather as a marketing strategy. Also under the direction of Johannes Grosse, the studio choir HisStory published the concept project “Love remains” in 2002 in cooperation with Jochen Rieger.
In 2006 the project choir reNEWed was founded. The approximately 27 members come from all over Germany and are under the direction of music advisor Thomas Wagler. The choir goes to concerts all over Germany and accepts invitations to Christian conferences and community events. In 2006 the choir appeared in the ZDF television service, in 2007 in the opening act for the Oslo Gospel Choir at the RuhrCongress , and in 2008 at the Vivace music conference in Schwäbisch Gmünd. The repertoire consists mostly of own German and English-language songs.
