The small town (Town) is east of Tulsa on Highway 412 in the northeast of the state of Oklahoma.
Chouteau, originally Cody's Creek, was from 1871 a stop on the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad . The place got its name from Auguste Pierre Chouteau.
