Chramnelenus
Chramnelenus , also Hrabanhelm , (* after 590 ; † before 672 ) was a Franconian nobleman and in the Merovingian period Dux der Pagi Ultrajoranus and Scodingorum in today's Swiss-French-German border area.
Life
Chramnelenus, whose middle name was Felix, came from the noble family of the Waltriche , one of the first and most influential families in the Franconian part of Burgundy , which was particularly wealthy in the area around Besançon . He was born there as the son of Duke Waldelenus and his wife Aelia Flavia. His older brother Donatus was Archbishop of Besançon from 625 to 660 , and his sister Sirudis later became the first abbess of the Jussamoutier convent there .
When Waldelenus died around 615, Chramnelenus succeeded him as duke and ruled over the areas on both sides of the Jura .
Around 632 he re- founded the Romainmôtier monastery , which was completely destroyed after an invasion of the Alamanni and in whose convent the holy wall regisel entered as a monk. In the years 636 and 637 he took part in the army of the Merovingian king Dagobert I against the rebellious Gascogner . 642 supported Chramnelenus his relatives, the Burgundian house Meier Flaochad by military means against his opponent Willibald defeated and, together with his brother- Amalgar , an enemy army before Autun , where Willibald was killed.
At the end of his reign he founded, with the consent of the Bishop of Lausanne , Protasius , the convent of Baulmes , to which he gave the rule of St. Columban as in Romainmôtier . Chramnelenus could not see the completion of the construction work, as he died before the year 672 - the founding of the monastery was finally completed by his widow Ermentrudis.
