Career

Adams, during his school years selection player for Essex , played for the amateur clubs FC Romford and FC Leytonstone as well as during his military service for selection teams of the army before he came in 1947 as an amateur for the second division Tottenham Hotspur . In November 1948 he signed a professional contract, but Adams did not have his first appearance for the first team until May 1950 as part of a European tour in Berlin against Tennis Borussia . Nevertheless, appearances for the 170 cm tall winger, who stood out for his speed and direct style of play, were subsequently limited to the reserve teams of Tottenham, for which he scored a total of 41 goals in 178 competitive games.

In the professional team of Spurs was set at the time on the position of the left winger Les Medley in the team of Arthur Rowe , so also in the 1950/51 season, when Tottenham won the English championship as a promoted team. For his competitive game debut in the First Division Adams came because of an injury medley on March 1, 1952 in a 5-1 win against Derby County , to which he contributed with a hit. In the following weeks he played four more league games when Tottenham finished the season as runners-up. After a last use in October 1952 against Preston North End , when Medley was missing because of an international match, Adams moved in December 1952 in exchange for Roy Hollis in the Third Division South to Norwich City .

At Norwich, Adams came immediately after his move to a series of 17 consecutive missions, but as a result he did not succeed in establishing himself permanently in the team. Before he left, he played 30 competitive games for the professional team and 29 games for the reserve team. In March 1954, Adams moved within the Third Division South for a four-digit transfer fee to Watford FC , after he was only nine in the 1953/54 season against his rivals Tony Collins , Johnny Gavin and Peter Gordon - all of whom later also ran for Watford League appearances on the left winger position had come. For Watford he played 75 league appearances (5 goals) until 1956. After he was only offered a contract as a part-time professional for the 1956/57 season, he successfully defended himself in the Football League and received the right to leave the club free of charge. He joined Dartford FC in the Southern League in November 1956 and completed a total of 216 games (21 goals) for the club before ending his career in 1964 with a knee injury.

After retiring, Adams earned his living in the automobile trade and later as a painter and decorator. He died in 2012 at the age of 84 in his home town of Brentwood .
