Chris De Stoop
Christian De Stoop (born 1958 in Sint-Gillis-Waas ) is a Belgian journalist and writer.
Life
De Stoop is the second son of a farming family in the Waasland . He studied and worked as a journalist and reporter for the Belgian-Dutch weekly newspaper Knack since the mid-1970s . His first book, Ze zijn zo Ran meneer, about international trafficking in women, grew out of this work . The book attracted a lot of attention and led to a parliamentary investigation into the situation in Belgium.
In 2004 he published a report on the migration Zij kwamen uit het Oosten . The book received the Gouden Uil Audience Award . In 2008 his book Het complot van België was nominated for the AKO Literatuurprijs . He moved to the municipality of Beveren in 1999 and deals with the industrialization of the Scheldepolder and its effects on agriculture ( De Bres , 2000). Since the death of his brother, he has also taken care of the family's farm ( Dit is mijn hof , 2015). In the book he asks why society does not see the rapid decline of the free farmers as a social tragedy.
