Chris Paul (author)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chris Paul (* 1962 ) is a German grief counselor , therapist (alternative practitioner for psychotherapy) and author.

Life

After studying Protestant theology , German and musicology , Chris Paul worked in publishing, as an exhibition organizer and as an author. From the beginning of the nineties she offered groups and seminars for mourners alongside these activities. She continued her education in various fields, studying sociology and social behavioral sciences (with a BA ). Since 1998 she has been working in the field of grief counseling as an alternative practitioner for psychotherapy (HeilPrG) in her own practice in Bonn.

In 2000, an intensive cooperation with the association AGUS (Relatives for Suizid) (based in Bayreuth) began. Paul developed a series of bereavement seminars for relatives after a suicide, which are offered annually by a team of colleagues from AGUS under the title “Dare to trust”. In addition, she conducts regular training courses for the voluntary leaders of AGUS self-help groups .

In 2002 Chris Paul was elected chairman of the TrauerInstitut Deutschland eV (TID), Bonn. In 2009 Chris Paul took over the Mourning Institute Germany as her own company. The advanced and advanced training of members of the most varied of helping professions is an important focus of their work. She was jointly responsible for the creation of the standards of the Federal Association for Trauerbegleitung (BVT) , according to which she aligns her work.

Paul works in private practice in Bonn, publishes regularly for the professional public and those affected. She enriches her book presentations and lectures with elements from theater and music. She is a trainer in her own institute (since 2009 no longer in the legal form of an eV, but as a private institute with Paul as the owner) and for numerous other institutions.

Main topics of your work

The thematic background of their work is related to various theoretical models of the mourning process:

  • The model of the tasks of mourning according to James William Worden , especially his reformulation of the fourth task, which calls for "to move the dead to a new place".
  • Dennis Klass' approach to healthy and natural “continuing bonds”, “continued ties” to the deceased. She therefore contrasts the previously common approach of letting go with a holistic culture of remembrance.
  • Robert Neimeyer's approach, which assumes that people in the process of grief reformulate their own life story, their beliefs and basic convictions until the loss they experience has found a place in them that gives them the courage to continue living.

In 2017 she presented an integrative model of these different theories of grief with the “Kaleidoscope of Mourning”, which she clarified in several publications.

Particularly important topics of her work are the topic of complicated grief / persistent grief disorder , that of grief after suicide , as well as the meaning of "guilt" in the grief process. In 2009 she presented her approach of "constructive debt management", in which between "normative "And" instrumental "accusations are distinguished.
