Chris Tsui Hesse

Chris Tsui Hesse (* 29. August 1932 in Osu , Accra ) is a Ghanaian filmmaker, officer and diplomat in retirement .

Life

education

Hesse attended the Osu Presbyterian Junior and Senior Boys School and then the Odorgonno Secondary School. In 1954 he received the Cambridge Overseas Certificate and was employed by the Ghana Film Industry Corporation (GFIC). In 1960 he graduated from the State University of Film, Television and Theater Łódź . He completed postgraduate studies as a film and television artist from the Sorbonne in Paris.

He also received a Bachelor of Divinity in 1985 and a PhD in Philosophy in Film and Art from the University of Southern California , USA in 1989 .

Career as a photographer and filmmaker

From 1956 to February 24, 1966, Hesse was the personal photographer of Kwame Nkrumah and filmed him in 1963 when he announced greetings during the session of the United Nations for the establishment of the Organization for African Unity . In 1960, as part of Ghana's involvement in the Congo crisis, he was appointed captain of the Ghanaian UN troops and single-handedly filmed the clashes with the troops of Mobutu Sese Seko . In 1980 he was the cameraman for Love Brewed in the African Pot .

He is known and for his outstanding expertise in camera work. In 1985 he received a Golden Camera at the FESPACO film festival as cameraman and co-producer of Solidarity in Struggle . He is a founding member and past president of the Ghana Academy of Film and Television Arts (GAFTA).

Career as a diplomat and other offices

From 1984 to 1986 Hesse was High Commissioner in Harare . From March 31, 1988 to May 20, 1994 he was ambassador to Moscow .

From May 20, 1994 to 1996 he was chairman of the National Commission for Civic Education.

In 1985, Hess was ordained a priest in the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.

family

In 1959 he married Regina Hesse, a now retired official from the Bank of Ghana . They have five grown children and grandchildren.
