Christopher W. Wallace (born October 12, 1947 in Chicago ) is an American television presenter and political commentator. He works for Fox News and hosts the Fox News Sunday program .

life and career

Wallace's parents divorced when he was one year old. He grew up with his mother and stepfather, former CBS President Bill Leonard. His biological father was noted CBS journalist and news anchor Mike Wallace . Wallace graduated from the private Hotchkiss School and later studied at Harvard College . There he reported for the student radio WHRB, including the occupation of a university building where the local police arrested him. Although he was accepted into Yale Law School, Wallace accepted a position with the Boston Globe . In 1975 Wallace moved to NBC , first in New York City, then in Washington.

From 1982 to 1989 he was a correspondent for reports from the White House . Wallace then hosted the Sunday edition of NBC Nightly News and Meet the Press . Wallace joined ABC in 1989 and Fox News in 2003 . According to the Süddeutsche Zeitung in July 2020, the broadcaster, which largely followed the Republican line, was considered to be “to a certain extent the last journalist standing”. His impartial manner and his critical questioning of politicians from both camps, both Republicans and Democrats , make him a welcome presenter of political programs.

An interview with the incumbent US President Donald Trump in July 2020 caused a stir . Wallace was critical of Trump's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic , which had been rampant since the beginning of the year and which at that time had already claimed over 140,000 deaths in the USA would have. He also spoke to Trump about former Vice President Joe Biden , who will run against the Republican in the US election in November . Trump had repeatedly accused Biden of being "senile" and presented an alleged intelligence test as evidence of his own mental performance. Wallace said he did the test himself before the interview and described it as "not the hardest test" as the questions only consisted of recognizing the image of an elephant as an elephant or counting back in steps of seven from one hundred.
