Chrissy Lee

Christine "Chrissy" Lee (actually Christine Leeworthy , born June 17, 1943 in Colchester , Essex ) is a British pop and jazz musician (drums) and band leader .

Lee, who initially played in Salvation Army orchestras , appeared on the Carroll Levis Discovery Show , a talent show on the BBC , at age 12 . A year later she became a member of the swing band Lena Kidd Seven . At the age of 16 she moved to London, at the age of 17 she became the drummer with Ivy Benson , with whose orchestra she accompanied vocalists such as Dinah Washington , Frank Sinatra junior , Fats Domino , Caterina Valente and Tom Jones . After five years at Benson she founded the group in 1963 with five other musicians from the orchestra The Beat Chics that The Beatles supported on their first tour of Spain and their cover of Bill Haley -title Skinny Minie was an international success. In 1965 Lee presented an EP called Beat Chics , which was successful in the Spanish and Latin American charts.

Lee then returned to Benson to become a member of the Mike Holly Big Band in the late 1960s ; then she founded the septet Christine Lee Set , which was musically influenced by Blood, Sweat & Tears and had mainly engagements in hotels, such as the Sheraton in Cairo, where she also appeared on Egyptian television. She later played with her band at The Top of the Carlton Hotel in Johannesburg, with her twelve- piece Chrissy Lee Band at the Lyceum in London. She then led smaller bands and was also the musical director for Roy Castle , Ken Dodd and Bob Monkhouse . During the 1990s she led the big band The Crissy Lee and Her All-Female Orchestra , with whom she a. a. also made guest appearances at the Cork Jazz Festival . Then she led the West Coast Quartet with Kellie Santin .

Lee has appeared on numerous British television shows, such as the Cilla Black Show, Russell Harty Show , David Frost Chart Show and Jack Parnell Big Band Special .
