Christa Neuper

Christa Neuper (born February 12, 1958 in Graz ) is an Austrian neuropsychologist . From October 2011 to September 2019 she was rector of the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz , and thus the first woman rector in its 426-year history.

Life

Christa Neuper was born in Graz in 1958. She graduated from the Academic Gymnasium in Graz the Matura in 1976. She then studied psychology at the Karl-Franzens University Graz. After receiving her doctorate in 1984, Neuper worked in research and teaching at the Institute for Psychology at Karl-Franzens University and at the Institute for Biomedical Technology at Graz University of Technology . In 2002, Neuper qualified as a professor at Karl-Franzens University, where she was appointed professor for applied neuropsychology and human-machine interfaces in 2005.

Since then, Neuper has held various managerial positions at several universities in Graz, including as director of the Institute for Semantic Data Analysis at the Technical University of Graz and as head of the Institute for Psychology at the Karl-Franzens University.

The neuropsychologist is the chairman of the “Initiative Brain Research Styria INGE-St”, which bundles the Styrian research potential in the field of neurosciences. Christa Neuper is married and has two adult children.

After being elected by the University Council on April 19, 2011, Christa Neuper headed the Karl Franzens University Graz as Rector from October 1, 2011. In May 2014 the Senate and University Council reappointed the rector for a second, four-year term from 2015–2019. Since Neuper was no longer available for a third term of office, Martin Polaschek was elected as her successor as Rector of the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz from October 1st, 2019.
