Christel Lang

Christel Lang - later Christel Kaib and Christel Kipp - (born October 14, 1947 ) is a former German table tennis player .

youth

Lang began playing table tennis at the club SC Union Ohligs, where she soon enjoyed national and international success and with the women's team she rose to the top league in 1964. In 1963 and 1964 she was German youth champion in singles. She also won the title in doubles with Mechtild Wickl in 1963, in mixed with Helmut Faure in 1964 and in doubles with Hannelore Kalka and in mixed with Willi Grobe in 1965. She reached the final in 1963 in mixed with Walter Dahlmann and in 1965 in singles.

Lang played more than 60 times in the West German WTTV youth team, twice in European championships and once in world championships. At the European Youth Championship in 1965, she won silver with the two-man team with Jutta Krüger .

In November 1964 she was honored for participating in 50 youth international competitions.

Adults

At the national German championships , Lang mostly competed in doubles with Rosemarie Seidel and in mixed with Wilfried Lieck . In mixed she reached the semi-finals from 1965 to 1967, in 1968 she was second to win the German championship in 1969 and 1970. In doubles, she took third place in 1966 and 1967.

The 1964/65 season she closed in the women's upper league West with a positive 26: 3 balance. In the national ranking list she was led in 1965 in sixth place. In 1966 she joined the DSC Kaiserberg club , with whose women's team she won the German Cup in 1968. She later played at PSV Waspo Remscheid in the association league (around 1970) and at Weiß-Rot-Weiß Kleve .

In 1965 and 1969 she was nominated for the individual competitions of the world championships. In 1965 in Ljubljana she won the singles against Ramona Darbin (Ireland) and Maija Nieminen (Finland) and then lost against Cirila Pirc (Yugoslavia). In doubles with Jitka Karlíková (CSSR) she prevailed against Loukia Skrivanou / Panagiota Kotsia (Greece) and Ramona Darbin / Iran Elyasvand (Ireland). The later world championship double Cheng min-chih / Lin Hui-Ching (China) was too strong. In Munich she was defeated by the Japanese Kazuko Ito in 1969 after advancing without a fight . Also in doubles with Heidi Müller (Munich) she lost in the first round against Mary van Ruiten / Mieke ten Broek (Netherlands).

Seniors

In 1985 Christel Kipp was honored with the Golden Badge of Honor from the West German Table Tennis Association WTTV. As a result, she continued to be active and successful in senior tournaments:

  • 1990: German senior champion over 40 in singles and doubles with Barbara Lang
  • 1999: German senior champion over 50 in singles and doubles with Barbara Lang
  • 2008: German Senior Championship 60+: 2nd place in singles and doubles with Roswitha Lindner

She played in various clubs, such as TTC Fortuna Solingen (late 1990s), TTC Wald and to this day (2010) TTC Wuppertal (Association League).

Private

Christel Lang comes from a table tennis family. Her mother Erna Lang already played for SC Union Ohligs, her father Erwin Lang was a ladies' manager and most recently an honorary member of the West German table tennis association WTTV. Her cousin Barbara Lang had first-class experience with SC Union Ohligs and Weiß-Rot-Weiß Kleve and was a participant in several German championships. After their first marriage around 1968, Christel Lang performed under the name Kaib . In 1976 she married again and was then called Kipp . She continued to play at TTC Wuppertal with her daughter Bettina Kipp (* 1977).
