Christian Andreas Zipser

Christian Andreas Zipser (born November 25, 1783 in Győr (Hungary); † February 20, 1864 in Beszterczebánya ) was a German-Hungarian naturalist and educator.

Life

Christian Andreas Zipser attended secondary school in Bösing ( Bazin ). He later studied philosophy and theology in Pressburg ( Pozsony ) and was then a teacher in Brno . After the death of his father Karl Zipser , he took over the management of the girls' educational institute founded by the same in Neusohl ( Beszterczebánya ). He conducted geological and mineralogical studies and made many trips.

In 1818 he was accepted as a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Saint Petersburg and in 1848 in the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .

He gave his collections of Hungarian rocks and minerals to several museums. He published a concise topographical-mineralogical dictionary on Hungary , smaller treatises on minerals from the Neusohl County (laumontite, phosphoric acid copper, Lievrit); about the geognostic environment of Neusohl; and about earthquakes in Hungary. In addition, he wrote various articles in Geiger's Magazine and Publishers and Gruber's Encyclopedia .

Monuments

The tomb of Christian Andreas Zipser is located in the Evangelical cemetery in Neusohl (today: Banská Bystrica ).
