Christian August von Weddig

Christian August von Weddig (born February 27, 1772 in Lüneburg , † June 14, 1826 in Bremen ) was a German officer and commander of the Bremen battalion .

origin

Weddig came from an old family of officers who were raised to the nobility in 1740. His parents were Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Ernst von Weddig (* 1743 - 19 September 1796) and his wife Klare Christine Luise von Krancke (* 30 October 1747 - before 1816).

Life

In 1790 he was in the service of the Electorate of Hanover . He took part in the campaigns against the French Republic. In 1801 he devoted himself to his estate in Morsum in County Hoya . He was persecuted during the French occupation in 1803. In 1813 he made himself available to the Russian Major General Friedrich Karl von Tettenborn in the Wars of Liberation . He was commissioned by him and the Bremen Senate to set up a Bremen field battalion. As a major , he was in command of these troops until his death .

family

He married Katharina Luise von Ompteda on March 7, 1800 in Lunsen (* August 30, 1768; † 1842). The couple had several children:

  • Ferdinand Alexander (born January 20, 1801, † July 16, 1827), died as the Imperial Brazilian senior physician in the Navy
  • Alexander Ernst (born January 26, 1802; † 1875), royal Hanoverian tax officer
  • Wolf Alexander (7 May 1804 - 8 February 1833) died in the Dutch service in Batavia
  • Moritz Alexander (born June 19, 1805; † in Brazil)
  • Luise Alexandra (September 17, 1807 - January 18, 1808)
