Max von Weddig

Max Alexander Robert von Weddig (born October 15, 1848 in Oldenburg , † 1920 ) was a Prussian major general .

origin

He was the son of Adolf von Weddig (* November 24, 1808; † February 20, 1876) and his wife Emilie, born von Buschmann (* April 14, 1820; † September 4, 1876). His father was a grand ducal Oldenburg colonel a. D. , most recently in the Grand Ducal Oldenburg Infantry Regiment , his grandfather Major Christian August von Weddig .

Life

Weddig joined the Oldenburg Infantry Regiment as a war volunteer in June 1866 , with whom he took part in the Main Campaign in the German War . From September 1867 Weddig was taken over as ensign with his association in the association of the Prussian Army . Promoted to secondary lieutenant in July 1868 , Weddig took part in the war against France in 1870/71 , where he was seriously wounded by a shot in the right thigh at the Battle of Vionville . Weddig was awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class.

From June 1871 to September 1873 he was posted as an inspection officer at the war school in Neisse . He then graduated from the War Academy by July 1876 and was promoted to Prime Lieutenant in February 1874 . From May 1877 to March 1879 Weddig was assigned to the General Staff . From there he was on leave from November 1878 to April 1879 to Athens in order to be able to take part in the topographical work of the German Archaeological Institute . At the end of March 1879 he was transferred to the secondary budget of the Great General Staff, the Prussian Land Survey Authority : He was placed à la suite of the Army General Staff, his assignment was that of a surveyor at the Prussian Reception . In January 1880 he was promoted to captain . Retaining his position, Weddig was transferred to the Hanoverian Fusilier Regiment No. 73 as a company commander in March 1883 with a patent from March 1879 . In September 1889 he was aggregated to the regiment as a surplus major and was assigned in March 1890. In November 1890 he was transferred to the 3rd Guard Grenadier Regiment "Queen Elisabeth" as commander of the 1st Battalion . In May 1895 Weddig moved to the Leib Grenadier Regiment "King Friedrich Wilhelm III." (1st Brandenburg) No. 8 , where he was entrusted with the functions of the regular staff officer. With the promotion to lieutenant colonel in June 1895, he also received the position of regular staff officer.

From his promotion to colonel on October 18, 1897, Weddig commanded Infantry Regiment No. 55 until October 17, 1900. He was then put up for disposition in approval of his resignation request with the statutory pension and the right to wear the regimental uniform. Weddig received the character of major general on December 19, 1903 .
