Christian Bitter (born October 30, 1878 in Rohrbach ; † May 24, 1950 in Heidelberg ) was Mayor of Rohrbach from 1913 to 1927 and was a member of the second chamber of the Baden Estates Assembly from 1913 to 1918 .

Life

He attended grammar school in Heidelberg until Obersekunda and then became a railway assistant. In 1900 he passed the examination to become a railway assistant and in 1903 rose to the status of regular railway secretary. In his hometown Rohrbach he was involved in a variety of political and social issues and was elected mayor there in 1913. His special merits include the establishment of the fruit growing area on the Boxberg and the redesign of the Rohrbach cemetery.

From 1913 to 1918 he was a member of the 55th electoral district (Heidelberg district and parts of Wiesloch district) in the Second Chamber of Baden, where he belonged to the national liberal faction and was a member of the budget commission and the justice and administration commission. He took an active part in parliamentary life, and in addition to the commission issues, he also particularly advocated matters relating to railway construction. In 1914 he was drafted into the military, but after a serious wound in 1915 and a stay in the hospital in Chauny, he initially returned to Rohrbach, but in the spring of 1916 he was again appointed as commander of the works office at Military Railway Directorate 3 in Belgium before he joined the In autumn 1916 the military was given a permanent leave of absence.

Bitter remained mayor of Rohrbach until he championed the incorporation of the place into Heidelberg in 1927. After that, he was a member of the Heidelberg city council until 1933, and he was also taken on for life in the municipal service of the city of Heidelberg, where he headed the municipal office and the municipal court . From 1941 he headed the legal department of the city administration. In May 1945 he retired due to age.
